The Dreaded Google Cloud Printer Offline Issue - And How to Fix It (1)

When Google announced the launch of its Cloud Print service, many people were excited by the convenience of printing from anywhere in the world and that the cloud would make all their printers available to them on demand. However, it turns out that while this feature might be convenient and easy to set up, it also has a few issues which need addressing. The most frustrating of these issues – and the one this guide will focus on – is when Google Cloud print gets stuck in offline mode, no matter how much you try to troubleshoot the problem or reset your devices, the problem just won’t go away!

What Causes It?

There are a few different things that can cause your Google Cloud printer to go offline. One possibility is that your internet connection is unstable or too slow. Another possibility is that the printer itself is having issues communicating with the Google Cloud servers. Finally, it’s also possible that there is an issue with your account or with the settings on your printer.

Why Does it Occur?

If you’ve ever run into the Google Cloud printer offline issue, you know how frustrating it can be. The good news is, you’re not alone. This problem is actually quite common, and there are a few different reasons why it might occur. For example, your printer could have just gone offline or its wifi connection could have been interrupted. Luckily, there are some simple steps that will help you get back up and running in no time!

How do you fix it?

Are you trying to print from your Chromebook, only to see an error message that says your printer is offline? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This seems to be a common issue with Google Cloud Print, but there is a way to fix it. All you need to do is open the Chrome browser on your Chromebook and go to Settings. Next, select Printing from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen and then click Manage Printers. You should see a list of printers connected to your account at the top of the page; if one or more are offline, click Connect Now and enter in any necessary information. If none are shown as offline, make sure they’re turned on by pressing their respective turn on button.

Next Steps.

If you’re looking for an easy way to get started with Linux, Ubuntu is a great option. However, if you’re using Google Cloud Print, you may run into the dreaded offline issue. Here’s how to fix it. For those of you who don’t want to deal with any of this and just want to print something, skip ahead to the Next Steps paragraph below. But for everyone else, here are some steps that might help:

  1. Open up the Terminal (press Ctrl+Alt+T) and type in sudo lpstat (without quotes).
  2. Look at the output and find your printer. In my case, it was lp1.
  3. Type in lpoptions -d lp1 (without quotes) to disable your printer driver so you can use Google Cloud Print again.
  4. Finally, type in lpmove -s lp1 (without quotes) to move your printer back online again so that you can resume printing from your usual device or apps.
